  1. Welcome to this self-running demonstration of Artisoft's LANtastic
  2. Network Operating System.  This presentation will give you an 
  3. overview of LANtastic and a description of some of the company's
  4. products.

  8. The LANtastic installation program takes only minutes.  You can 
  9. choose the default settings for a simple network installation, or you
  10. can select the specific resources and management settings that will
  11. customize and optimize your network.  The key word here, as well as
  12. throughout the LANtastic system, is flexibility.

  16. You manage your system by using a program called NET, which allows
  17. your machine to access the resources you need.  It lets you choose
  18. the best way for you to use the assets of your network.

  22. A program called NET_MGR allows others on the network to use your
  23. resources.  Simple, easy-to-use menus allow you to optimize your
  24. system's performance, to audit the use of the network and to control
  25. other management features.  The commands for both these programs 
  26. can be accessed in DOS...

  30. or, if you prefer Windows, you can make the same choices through simple, 
  31. easy to use icons.  Either way, the management of your LANtastic system 
  32. is a breeze.

  36. You can control the level of security you need on your network; who
  37. can use it, when, how and which resources.  The security can be as
  38. sophisticated as you need it to be, all the way down to individual
  39. files.

  41. With LANtastic you can choose from among 14 levels of security,
  42. involving such privileges as "Read only," "Write only," "Create a
  43. file," "Delete a file," and more.  Most other network systems limit
  44. the range and depth of your choices.

  47. These rights can be further managed by using the "Time of Day"
  48. control.  With this feature, you can restrict access to specific times
  49. and/or days of the week.  This is an ideal option when you have
  50. temporary or part-time employees.  By enabling the password
  51. expiration option, the system manager can control the length of time
  52. any password can be used.  These and other security features give you
  53. mainframe-like security on your LANtastic network; which days,
  54. which times of day and so on.

  77. Macintosh network through a dedicated gateway server so that you
  78. can do seamless, bi-directional file-and PostScript printer-
  79. sharing between the platforms.

  83. LANtastic for Windows puts the power of LANtastic into the
  84. Graphical User Interface of the Windows environment.  You can
  85. manage your system and all of its functions without leaving
  86. Windows.  Best of all, you can run DOS and Windows machines
  87. on the same network, and without using up a lot of RAM (memory).

  91. LANtastic for TCP/IP allows a workstation on a LANtastic network
  92. to communicate with high-powered mainframe computers.  It can 
  93. gain access to a wide range of systems throughout the network,
  94. including DEC VAX, HP and Sun Workstations, IBM's mainframes and
  95. NCR and AT&T minicomputers.  It also supports the NFS and the PING
  96. Internet Control message protocols.
